Green light for new homes in Worplesdon

Plans to provide much-needed housing in Worplesdon, Guildford, have been given the go-ahead by Guildford Borough Council’s Planning Committee on Wednesday, 7th November 2018.

The scheme has been promoted by Ashill, a company that specialises in high quality designs to complement the surrounding area, and is in line with Guildford’s Draft Local Plan, which has allocated the site for 150 homes and a care home.

Commenting on the decision of Guildford Borough Council’s Planning Committee, Steve Forman, Director of Ashill Land Limited, said:

“We are delighted to have secured a resolution to grant planning permission last night. Over the past months, we have been working on developing a scheme that reflects public and Members’ feedback and meets the local housing requirements. For example, we have recently amended the design of the proposed care home and revised the housing mix to provide a higher proportion of smaller homes.

“The housing need in Guildford is significant, with many young people struggling to find a way to settle in their home town. We are hoping that this development will help to address this problem for many of the local families trying to get on the property ladder, and would like, once again, to thank everyone who contributed to the consultation and registered their support .”

The development will include 148 new homes and a 70-bed care home on the land to the north of Keens Lane in Worplesdon. A high proportion – 40% – of the new development will be affordable housing managed by a housing association. A 70-bed care home will also provide specialist housing needs.

In addition, the development will deliver significant financial contributions towards local education, health and open space provision, and provide highways improvements for local roads.
