Proposals for new community led regeneration in Croydon town centre to go on display

Huntsmead Partners is bringing forward regeneration proposals for a site close to Croydon town centre.  The proposals for Woburn and Bedford Court on Wellesley Road will provide new, high-quality, sustainable homes, making the most of the site’s central location and proximity to excellent public transport links.

The new homes will form an ‘urban village’, offering significant enhancements to the local environment and community.  The central focus will be a public square, designed to host community activities, supported by quiet walkways and recreational spaces, creating a vibrant and connected place for people to live, work and play.

There is a strong focus on sustainability, with the plans promoting walking, cycling and a community car club. There will also be significant improvements to Wellesley Road, with new planting and landscaping to improve the street environment for pedestrians.

The existing estate, built in 1964, is in poor condition and there have been various attempts over the past decade to promote redevelopment of the site.  Huntsmead Partners has managed to overcome many of the obstacles that previously prevented development plans progressing.

Barnaby Joy, Founding Partner and CEO of Huntsmead Partners said:

“We are very pleased to be bringing forward regeneration plans for a site that has, to be honest, seen better days. Our aims are to bring the local neighbourhood and community to life, to create a destination people will want to visit and to connect this area with the rest of Croydon, which, as we all know, is undergoing a really exciting transformation.”

“We look forward to meeting with residents (many of whom we already know)

and the wider community to discuss our proposals.”

Public exhibitions are being held at Woburn Court, Wellesley Road, Croydon, CR0 2AE on:

  • Wednesday 17 July, from 4pm to 8pm; and
  • Saturday 20 July, from 10am to 2pm
